After a thrilling 30 seconds, I’d had enough helmet time, and tried to remove it. With Pepakura you’ve got some sharp edges around the helmet, but mostly they just point inwards, so the helmet wasn’t all that hard to force on my head, it was a pretty snug fit, but it looked great. And in a moment of weakness I ended up making a terrible mistake. Halfway through the project I had a helmet that was Bondoed, and in theory, was pretty wearable. For the signature helm I wanted to try out Pepakura, which looked good for a rookie. I’m a geek who was a dork.įor my first cosplay I went for the Red Hood. I spent all day just trying not to call apart!ĭriving by SDCC a few years back and then circling around for hours just looking at people, not quite understanding. As I walked the blocks from the Omni to the shoot at the Hilton, the adhesive started to let go. This worked great in the mountains where I currently live, but not in the Georgia heat at Dragon Con.
WINTER SOLDIER ARM PEPAKURA HOW TO
I had a terrible time deciding on how to attach things and finally decided to go with industrial Velcro. I had to cut and sew a new pair of uppers, cutting the toe on the bias and using steam instead of water/alcohol solution like I use on my leather.įor my first armor build ever I decided to go with Kamui’s method of sandwiching two layers of Worbla around a layer of craft foam. I had learned from the first pair to either use REALLY tight weave fabric or put aluminum foil on my lasts because barge cement WILL bleed through fabrics.(This after spending about 3 hours trying to pry the shoe loose from the last, and cutting a hole in the shoe while getting it off!) This pair I had my uppers all together(pigskin lining) and had started lasting them on, and things were going well- and RIPPPP Acetate/cotton fabric cut on the straight of grain apparently becomes weak and will not hold up to forming on a last. I was working on a shoe build and it was my second pair of fabric shoes. In the morning I carefully finished up the costume, bandaged up my injured paw, and headed to PAX. What followed was a wave of confusion and pain as I desperately tried to scrape the hot glue napalm off my hand without also burning my other hand! With the help of my wonderful wife, some pain killers, and ice packs, I was able to take a much needed nap and recover from the ordeal. My hastiness finally took its toll as I dropped a molten glue laden piece of fur directly onto my open left hand palm.

On the very last night before the event, at about 3am, I was hot gluing pieces of faux fur to the collar.

I was in a huge rush to get it all completed for PAX Prime 2011 and had spent a week of sleepless nights finishing up all the fabrication. One of my first costumes was Mage Hawke from Dragon Age 2.
